Good morning,
I am nearsighted. Two years ago, the optician noticed a slight squint in me, my ophthalmologist did not consider it tragic. Now I am back to the doctor because the squinting has worsened, or I see double images. A prism glasses were prescribed and I was referred to a neurologist because the cause is unclear. The referral says "mild Abduzensparere of unclear origin". Should I be worried that it could be something serious? My first thought was of course directly a tumor???
I am female, 33 years old.
Thank you in advance.
Good day,
Mild abducens palsy means that the muscle that stabilizes the eye outward (to prevent it from turning inward) is not working quite right. Unfortunately, more serious causes are also possible, which is why you are being referred to a neurologist. He will help to determine the cause. If he cannot make a clear diagnosis, the next step would likely be to have a CT or MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) of the skull to get to the bottom of the issue.
Your thought about a tumor is not incorrect, but other causes are also possible, so I would advise you to have it investigated quickly, as until then everything is just speculation.
Best regards,
Dr. Schaaf
