How can I improve my vision?

Dear ophthalmologist,

My name is Leonie Dörr and I have been having some issues with my vision for some time now. I already wear glasses, but I feel like my vision is getting worse. I work a lot on the computer and also spend a lot of time in front of screens in my free time. Lately, I have been experiencing more frequent headaches and my eyes often feel dry and irritated.

I am concerned that my vision could continue to deteriorate and I am wondering if there are ways to improve or at least maintain my vision. Are there specific eye exercises that could help me? Or are there special supplements that are good for the eyes?

I am willing to change my habits to protect my eyes and improve my vision. Are there specific things I should consider in my daily routine to relieve my eyes? I would greatly appreciate your advice and recommendations on how I can improve my vision in the long term.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Sincerely,
Leonie Dörr

Dear Mrs. Dörr,

Thank you for your message and your trust in my expertise as an ophthalmologist. It is important that you take care of your eyes and pay attention to potential problems like the symptoms you described. It is understandable that you are concerned and looking for ways to improve or at least maintain your vision. I would be happy to provide you with some advice and recommendations that can help you.

First and foremost, it is important to take regular breaks when working on the computer or sitting in front of screens for extended periods of time. The so-called 20-20-20 principle can help you with this: Every 20 minutes, you should look into the distance for 20 seconds, at least 20 feet away. This helps relax your eyes and prevent strain.

Additionally, specific eye exercises can help improve your vision. For example, regularly blinking, drawing eye circles, or letting your gaze wander in different directions can promote blood circulation in the eyes and help strengthen your vision.

Supplements can also play a role in supporting the health of your eyes. Omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins A, C, and E, as well as lutein and zeaxanthin are particularly important for eye health. You can get these nutrients through a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, fish, and nuts, or consider using supplements if necessary.

It is also important to stay hydrated to keep your eyes moist enough. Dry eyes can lead to irritation and discomfort, so make sure to drink water regularly. Additionally, it is advisable to eat a balanced diet, exercise regularly, and get enough sleep to keep your eyes and your entire body healthy.

Lastly, I recommend having regular eye examinations by a specialist to detect and treat any potential problems early on. An ophthalmologist can assess your vision and prescribe a new pair of glasses or recommend other measures to protect your eyes.

I hope that my advice will be helpful to you and that you can improve your vision in the long run. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me.
