When is a doctor's visit necessary?

Hello,
For two weeks I have been experiencing stomach pain, which started with nausea and vomiting. Additionally, I also had diarrhea, which disappeared after two days. The pain occurs shortly after waking up, but it eases a bit after drinking some water. I have tried a bland diet, warm tea, clay, and stomach capsules for pain relief, but it did not bring any success. Should I try Pantozol? And when is it advisable to see a doctor?
Hello!
Thank you for your question.
Your symptoms could indeed indicate gastritis, an inflammation of the stomach lining. Pantozol (Pantoprazole) reduces the production of stomach acid, which should help alleviate the symptoms. However, diarrhea is rather atypical for gastritis. It could also be an infection of the digestive tract with viruses or bacteria.
Since you have been experiencing these symptoms for 2 weeks already, you should definitely see your primary care physician who can investigate the cause. They may refer you to a specialist if necessary. Until you can see your doctor on Monday, it is worth trying Pantozol. Just consult with your pharmacist. You may already see some improvement by Monday, which could make it easier for your colleague to make a diagnosis.
If your symptoms worsen over the weekend, you can always contact the emergency medical service. They can treat you or potentially arrange for you to be admitted to the hospital.
Wishing you a speedy recovery!
