Risk group

Dear Sir or Madam,

Thank you for your help! I am 39 years old, female, and have been experiencing recurrent thromboses for 5 years. My left and right lower legs as well as my left upper arm have been affected in the past. Most recently, I had multiple thromboses in my right lower leg in October 2019, and since then I have to take blood thinners for life. The cause of the thromboses has not been identified to date. My question now is whether I belong to the risk group for coronavirus? Thank you! Additionally, I also have thalassemia minor, and my last hemoglobin level was 11.2.

Thank you!

Warm regards

Dr. med. Frauke Gehring

Good evening,

You don't need to worry, neither thalassemia nor thrombophilia make you a high-risk patient. Older and immunocompromised people, diabetics, and those with heart and lung conditions are at risk.

Please continue to follow hygiene rules and maintain a safe distance from others.

Stay healthy!

Sincerely, Dr. Gehring
