Reflux disease

Hello,

I have an appointment for an endoscopy in September, suspected reflux disease. Now I have a question about the symptoms: burning in the throat, clearing the throat, occasionally everything tightens in the mouth, lump in the throat, increased saliva in the mouth, and above all the urge to cough. But the symptoms are not always present, the cough is not always there either. If it were reflux, wouldn't the symptoms be always present? The cough occurs when lying down, but also when sitting or standing. Would the cough with this disease only occur when lying down or also when sitting or standing?
Thank you in advance for your response.

Best regards

Hello again,

Your considerations are already correct, only: If it were always that simple, then we wouldn't need a Dr. House or what we understand as differential diagnostic considerations, that is, searching for a trigger that considers both the most obvious cause as well as things that "could also be possible".
I assume that the endoscopy is not the first diagnostic measure you have taken, but that you may have already seen an ENT specialist who has examined your throat.
Since September is still a long way off, you could also - after appropriate clarification and with your consent - "provisionally" treat it as if it were reflux, so implementing the appropriate general measures and using a proton pump inhibitor. A response to the treatment would make the diagnosis very likely.

I hope this helps you further.
