Gastrointestinal tract

Hello. Since a Corona infection 2 months ago, I have been experiencing stomach and intestinal problems. I constantly have mucus in my stool and bloating, but no other symptoms. My blood values are normal. I feel like sweets or chocolate trigger these symptoms. What possible causes or diseases could be responsible? Could it be intestinal inflammation or colon cancer? Thank you in advance.

Dr. med. Frauke Gehring

Good day,

Since Covid19 does not cause colon cancer, and your symptoms have a direct temporal relationship with the infection, I am thinking of it as a last resort.

The infection often involves the gastrointestinal tract as well, so a remaining inflammation is possible. I would recommend having the calprotectin level in the stool tested, which indicates inflammation.

Furthermore, it is possible that an intolerance, such as to fructose, has developed. That should also be investigated.

Sincerely, Dr. Gehring
