Hello, I have had diarrhea for 3 days, on the first day with cramps, the diarrhea is not too severe, only in the morning but then liquid. This afternoon I went to the toilet, but there was no stool, only bright blood, mucus and a lump, like congealed blood. I immediately went to the emergency room in a panic, the doctor there examined me rectally, there was no blood on the glove, she said I had internal hemorrhoids, today's event may be from that, or an inflammation, I should go to my GP on Friday and have a colonoscopy performed. My question is, could it also be something serious, the colonoscopy will probably take some time until I get an appointment. Can something like this really happen due to a hemorrhoid, I am now afraid that something in my intestine might burst or something? I am female, 47 years old. Thank you and regards, Amy

I suspect less a hemorrhoid bleeding, because it does not cause mucus or diarrhea, but rather an inflammation of the rectum, which can simply occur. The bleeding also came from further up, if there was nothing on the glove.

That's why your doctor will arrange a quick appointment for you, the colonoscopy should be done next week.

I can't promise you that the cause is harmless, but there is a very good chance that it is. And nothing will burst, don't worry!
