Pain like in circulatory disorder

Hello, I have been experiencing pain in the back for years that radiates to my left arm, sometimes also to the front of my chest. The pain mainly occurs during periods of stress and can last for hours to days. Most recently, it occurred again after an argument and lasted until the next day. I then went to see an internist who performed a stress ECG, which was normal. The pain did not worsen during the test. Can I be sure that the pain is not coming from the heart? Weeks later, I went to see a cardiologist who performed an ultrasound and stress test, all of which were normal. He believes it is almost certain that the pain is not coming from the heart, but he is unsure of the exact cause. Where else could these symptoms come from, especially when they occur during periods of stress? I do not want to undergo a heart catheterization. I am 47 years old, female, non-smoker, slim, with low blood pressure. Despite this, I still get anxious when the pain occurs because it is so typical. Can I be reassured after these tests? If it is a circulation problem, it should have been detected during the stress ECG, as I had been experiencing the pain for two days at that point, not just during the test. As I mentioned, these symptoms have been ongoing for years and are not new.

Thank you and best regards.

Good evening,

not only should the pain worsen with exertion if it were due to a circulatory disorder, but one would also expect to see changes in the ECG with increased exertion. Since neither of these things has happened, you can safely say that your heart is innocent of the symptoms. Women of your age without risk factors also do not develop coronary heart disease.

It is very likely that the pain is caused by tension, which can occur unilaterally with a slightly curved spine and can also radiate towards the chest if the thoracic spine is affected. Since tension under stress can lead to more symptoms, this also fits.

I would recommend consulting an orthopedic specialist.

I wish you all the best!
