Menstrual cycle-ovulation
July 1, 2016 | 20,00 EUR | answered by Dr. med. Frauke Gehring
Hello,
Is it possible/are there cases known where it is possible for an ovulation to occur within approximately 1.5-1 day(s) before or approximately 12 hours after a completely normal menstrual period (the period actually occurred)? If so, how is this possible and how likely is it?
Thank you very much!
Hello,
Yes, this is possible because not only one egg matures at all times. For example, triggered by an orgasm, a second ovulation can occur. Menstruation can also occur even if there was no ovulation.
A second ovulation is rare, and implantation is also difficult because the tissue breaks down during menstruation. Therefore, the risk of becoming pregnant after menstruation is very low, but not zero.
Best regards, Dr. Höllering
