Questions about ferritin levels
May 27, 2014 | 15,00 EUR | answered by Dr. med. Frauke Gehring
I have a ferritin level of 30. I feel weak and tired. According to my doctor, I now have to take L-Thyroxine tablets because there is a slight underactive thyroid. The ferritin level does not need to be treated. Is that correct? My friend had a ferritin level of 50 and received an iron infusion from her doctor. What should I do?
Best regards,
Steffi
Good day,
actually, 30 is at the lower end of the normal range and may not necessarily need to be treated because it is still within the normal range. However, it is known that people with a low normal level may still feel tired. Therefore, you can get over-the-counter iron tablets (e.g. Ferrosanol) and take them occasionally if the thyroid hormones do not make you feel more energetic. However, it is likely that your thyroid is responsible for your fatigue.
