Complaints without findings

Female: 20 years old

Hello, for about 2 years I have had EXTREME stomach problems. In addition, there is also an inexplicable inner restlessness on my part. A stomach endoscopy was performed where nothing special could be found. About 2 months later, a colonoscopy was performed. The diagnosis was stomach inflammation and digestive problems. I was prescribed some medications, but it didn't stop. I felt like it would only get worse. After countless doctor visits, a new diagnosis came: lactose intolerance. Again, the same game, medications here, medications there. It didn't stop. Sometimes it was gone, then it was back. I constantly received the same medications: including Vomex, mcp drops, Iberogast, and Omeprazole. The pain and nausea did not stop, and headaches also followed. Due to this terrible state of constant pain and nausea, I experienced depressive moods because it seemed like it would never end, and it greatly affected my daily life. Job search, leisure activities, etc. All of this happened in the last 2 years. In August of this year, my stomach problems started again, nausea, cramps, loss of appetite "no heartburn". The doctor thought it could be stomach inflammation again and prescribed Pantoprazole. I took this medication for 4-5 weeks, but it still got worse. Recently, I felt very sick again, my upper body and head were numb, my hands were cramping, and my whole body was shaking. I went to the hospital, they gave me an infusion and told me that my body was hyperventilating, and then they gave me a bag to breathe into. A few days later, I started tasting a bloody taste in my mouth which I could also smell. Back to the hospital, another infusion, and if I were to vomit blood, I should contact them again. In the meantime, another outpatient stomach endoscopy, diagnosis: mild inflammation with minimal signs of reflux. Even today, I still have extreme nausea throughout the day, cramps, breathing problems, feel very weak, especially in my legs, and rapid breathing causes numbness in my hands.

It drives you crazy to have stomach pain and nausea every day.

What should I do?
What is wrong with me?
Why can't they find anything?

Hello,

I am unable to examine you, but I would like to provide you with some hopefully helpful information.

It is urgent to check the pancreas, thyroid, and adrenal glands. These organs could all be responsible for your complaints.

For clarification, an ultrasound and targeted blood tests by an internist are initially sufficient. It may even be advisable to consult an endocrinologist (a specialized internist), as it is very likely, in my opinion, that there may be a hormonal axis disorder.

The gastrointestinal tract is also referred to as the second brain, as it is permeated by a highly branched network of nerves. But before attributing a psycho-vegetative cause to your symptoms, I consider it very important to investigate all possible organic causes.

Therefore, please continue to seek medical advice without getting anxious.

Do you have any questions about this? I am happy to help further.

All the best and a speedy recovery!

Best regards,

Dr. K. Hamann
