Pre-existing conditions Coronavirus

Good day, I have a question about the coronavirus. I have high blood pressure and take beta blockers for it. Additionally, I had spasmodic bronchitis last year and have had trouble breathing when I have a cold ever since. I am now very afraid because of my pre-existing conditions, can you tell me how serious these pre-existing conditions can be for getting infected?

Thank you very much and best regards

Dr. med Ralf von Seckendorff

Good day, I am happy to help you. Your risk of getting infected is as high as for anyone else. However, due to your pre-existing conditions, there could theoretically be a more severe course of the illness (but not necessarily). This does not mean that it is very likely that you will die from it. The mortality rate is not really high at 0.9%! Therefore, you should be cautious and protect yourself well with hand hygiene and, if necessary, a face mask and social distancing measures. Kind regards
