Chronological order when submitting the income tax return
February 21, 2022 | 35,00 EUR | answered by Steuerberater Bernd Thomas
Dear Sir or Madam,
since 2020 I have been running a sideline business and am therefore required to file an income tax return. The tax returns for the previous years (18 and 19) have not been done yet, as there are still some documents missing and they are still voluntary.
My question is: Can I submit the mandatory return for 2020 already (in order not to exceed the deadline further) and submit the previous years, which were not mandatory, after the 2020 return? Or do I have to submit them chronologically, starting with the 2018 return?
Thank you in advance.
Dear inquirer,
I am happy to answer your inquiry based on the information provided by you in the context of an initial consultation on frag-einen.com. The response is based on the information you have provided. Missing or incorrect information may affect the legal outcome.
For income tax purposes, according to the principle of segmented taxation, income tax returns for different years can be submitted independently. Therefore, you can already submit the return for 2020, even if those for 2018 and 2019 are still pending.
Best regards,
Bernd Thomas
