Can taxes for the tax year 2016 still be submitted later?
November 27, 2021 | 35,00 EUR | answered by Steuerberater Knut Christiansen
I had a deduction for work-related expenses on my income tax card in 2016. So far, I have not submitted a tax return. Can I still submit the tax return for 2016 this year or in 2022? I have not been asked by the tax office to submit a tax return so far. However, I would like to submit the return voluntarily as I expect to benefit from it.
Good evening and thank you for your inquiry!
Due to the specified tax-free allowance, you are required to submit a tax return according to § 46 para. 2 no. 4 EStG if your annual salary exceeded 12,250 euros. Therefore, the statute of limitations according to § 170 AO begins at the latest three years after the end of the assessment period. In your case, the deadline starts on January 1, 2020 and ends on December 31, 2024. Therefore, you can (and must) definitely submit the tax return for 2016.
