Maintenance for adult child

Good day,

I have a question regarding the child support payment for my adult daughter. My 19-year-old daughter is currently undergoing training to become a nursery teacher and will not be earning any money in the first 3 years as she is only attending school. In the 4th year, during her internship, she will earn approximately 1000 euros gross. At the moment, she is in her 2nd year of school without any income and has a part-time job where she earns around 400 euros.

Her father, who is Swiss and lives in Switzerland, is her only parent (he is unmarried) and earns approximately 3500 euros or more. We were never married. She is not covered by health insurance through her father. I pay for health insurance, accident insurance, etc. on my own. I am separated, have another child who is 12 years old, receive support from my (ex) husband (who is not Melina's father), and earn around 500 euros monthly from self-employment.

How much should Melina's father pay in child support, and who is responsible for the health insurance contributions since she cannot be covered by insurance in Switzerland?

Also, how is child support calculated for my 12-year-old daughter? Her father is also Swiss, lives in Switzerland, and she is his only child. He earns 3500 euros net. I am voluntarily insured in Germany and have my younger daughter covered under my insurance.

Thank you in advance.

Dear advice seeker,

Thank you for your inquiry. Please understand that it is not possible to provide a final calculation as part of an initial consultation, as not all numbers (e.g. work-related expenses of both parents, etc.) are known.

Therefore, only a rough calculation based on the numbers you provided is possible. In your case, it can be assumed that the total family income is just under 4000.- €.

Therefore, the maintenance according to the table would amount to 664.- €. This amount would need to be reduced by the child benefit of 184.- € that your daughter receives, leaving 480.- €. The daughter's secondary income must also be taken into account, so that an expected net payment of 80.- € will remain.

I hope this answers your question to your satisfaction. If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask.

Sincerely,
