Indwelling urinary catheter

My husband, aged 84, is going to have a permanent bladder catheter placed in his abdominal cavity. He has had a biological heart valve since 2005. Are there any special precautions that need to be taken to prevent infective endocarditis? And can a permanent catheter be placed with an artificial heart valve at all?
Dear inquirer, these are not mutually exclusive, however, such a catheter naturally presents a potential source of infection that needs to be monitored, but also would exist if the bladder is not functioning properly. If signs of infection appear at the insertion site, one would need to discuss endocarditis prophylaxis. Do you have any questions? Regards, C. Welsch.
