Ask a doctor on the topic of Otorhinolaryngology

frontal sinus

Hello,
I have already contacted you with a similar concern before, but I wanted to inquire again. I have been experiencing a pain above the bridge of my nose towards my right eye, sometimes it is constant and sometimes it comes back for a few seconds. I have been dealing with this for a while, sometimes it completely disappears for weeks and months, and other times it is more frequent. I have noticed that sometimes it gets better when I am upside down, for example when washing my hair, sometimes after blowing my nose, after crying, or after a steam bath it gets better, but unfortunately not always. Sometimes nasal spray helps, but recently I used nasal spray quite a bit and it actually triggered the pain even more and lasted very strongly for a few hours. My ENT doctor looked into my nose briefly some time ago and said it could be a ventilation problem causing a vacuum to form. He didn't say much more about it and now I am quite lost. I am also writing because now I have another pain that is making me nervous (I am an anxiety patient and a hypochondriac), it is located on the top of my forehead towards the crown, it feels sharp, almost like a lightning bolt, and lasts for a few seconds. Should I be worried about this? In my panic, I think of terrible things. I will try to attach a picture, I have marked in red the areas where I am experiencing pain. I would appreciate it if you could tell me what you suspect and especially what I can do about it?
Best regards

Christian Welsch

Dear questioner, if you have recurring complaints in this area, an imaging diagnosis of the paranasal sinuses would be indicated to rule out chronic inflammation in the ethmoid. A longer trial of therapy with a topical corticosteroid (e.g. Nasonex spray) and nasal irrigation with saline solution can also help.

Tension headaches are also possible, and this can be worsened by an anxiety disorder.

There should not be anything serious here. Do you have any questions?

Regards, C. Welsch, ENT specialist
