Menstrual cycle disorders IUD or birth control pill
Dear Madam/Sir, I am 44 years old and I use a copper coil for contraception. For about 3 months, I have been experiencing very strong, painful, and prolonged bleeding lasting around 17 days. Subsequent spotting is not uncommon. A visit to the doctor revealed a very high buildup of the uterine lining and two fibroids. A dilation and curettage procedure is scheduled for next week, and the coil is to be removed. I must mention that this is my third coil, which has only been in place for about 1 1/2 years. Each time a coil was inserted, a dilation and curettage was performed due to the high uterine lining buildup. I have also tried a hormonal coil, but it was not well tolerated. The doctor is now considering hormonal contraception for me. I am a bit scared of this option. I chose the coil because I did not tolerate the pill well, but that was 15 years ago. There are many hormonal contraceptive options available now. What other alternatives are there? If I were to try the pill, what would be the most suitable composition? Low estrogen? Since I otherwise tolerate the coil very well, I am hesitant to part with it. On the other hand, I no longer have the strength to endure these long, heavy bleeding episodes or the dilation and curettage procedures. Thank you in advance for your response.
