Is it normal to have headaches every day?

Dear Doctor,
My name is Erika Altmayer and I am reaching out to you because I am concerned about my health. Over the past few weeks, I have been struggling with headaches almost daily. It feels like my head is getting heavier every day and the pain just doesn't seem to go away. I have tried various pain medications, but nothing seems to really help.
I work in a stressful office job and sit in front of a computer all day. I try to take regular breaks and give my eyes rest, but the headaches still occur almost daily. I drink plenty of water and try to eat healthily, but I still can't shake the feeling that something is wrong.
My family and friends have already mentioned to me that it is not normal to have headaches so frequently. They are worried about me and strongly recommend that I see a doctor. That's why I am reaching out to you now and asking: Is it normal to struggle with headaches every day? Are there possible causes that I have not considered? What measures could I take to alleviate the headaches or even get rid of them completely?
I thank you in advance for your help and hope for a prompt response.
Sincerely,
Erika Altmayer
Dear Ms. Altmayer,
Thank you for your message and for trusting in my expertise. I am sorry to hear that you have been struggling with persistent headaches over the past few weeks. Headaches can be very burdensome, and it is important to identify their causes in order to take appropriate measures for relief.
It is indeed not normal to experience headaches every day, especially if they do not improve despite taking pain medication. It is good that you have already taken some measures, such as taking regular breaks, drinking enough water, and maintaining a healthy diet. These are important steps to prevent headaches, but it seems that there may be other factors at play in your case.
Sitting in front of a computer in your stressful office job could actually be a cause of your headaches. Long screen times can lead to eye strain and tension headaches. It is important to take regular breaks, protect your eyes, and create ergonomic work conditions to reduce this strain.
However, there are also other possible causes of your headaches that should be considered. These include stress, lack of sleep, dehydration, hormonal fluctuations, dietary habits, postural issues, vision problems, tension in the neck and shoulder area, and possibly more serious medical causes such as migraines or other neurological conditions.
To identify the exact cause of your headaches and recommend appropriate measures for relief, I strongly recommend that you see a doctor. A doctor can conduct a thorough examination, assess your symptoms, and if necessary, order further tests such as blood work or imaging to make an accurate diagnosis.
In the meantime, you can try to avoid stressful situations, get enough sleep, relax regularly, eat a balanced diet, drink enough water, and incorporate physical activity into your daily routine. Additionally, relaxation techniques such as meditation, yoga, or breathing exercises may be helpful in reducing stress and relieving tension headaches.
I hope that my information has been helpful to you and that you will soon find a solution for your headaches. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me.
Best regards,
Dr. Otto Karpinski
