Severe lower back pain after bending

My mother (73 years old) has been suffering from very severe lower back pain for a short time after bending forward. I have read that with a herniated disc, the pain occurs during the bending. In my mother's case, it is the opposite. She has no problems bending forward. However, when she has been bent forward for a longer period of time and wants to straighten her back again, these severe, stabbing pains occur in the lower back area just above the buttocks.
What is the condition and what treatment is recommended?
Thank you for your help.
Hello!
There can be many different explanations for the complaints. Initially, an X-ray should be done to rule out vertebral fractures. Subsequently, an MRI is advisable. Until then, your mother can take over-the-counter painkillers such as Ibuprofen, Diclofenac, if there are no intolerances. The family doctor is the first point of contact and can initiate further steps. If your mother develops sensory disturbances or even weakness in the legs, this is an emergency, and you should immediately seek the nearest Orthopedic Clinic. A remote diagnosis is unfortunately not possible without imaging and a thorough examination.
I wish your mother all the best!
