Prostate cancer

Dear Sir or Madam,

I (33 years old) have the following question and hope you can help me.

Lately, I have been feeling the need to urinate more often. The amount of urine I pass seems to be increased. At night, I have to go to the bathroom - not every night, but usually once per night. Sometimes there is a "dripping" afterwards, especially when I urinate while sitting down. I do not have any pain, erectile dysfunction, blood in my urine, etc. I have also had problems with the lower back for about 10 years, which first occurred in the context of a "sports injury", but was medically clarified (weak back muscles). A few weeks ago, I had some pain in the coccyx for a few minutes, but this has happened to me before. My back pain "often radiates from the top over the coccyx" and then goes away.

About 5 years ago, I saw a doctor for problems with my intestines. During a physical examination, he told me that I have a slightly enlarged prostate, which is not a cause for concern. I also had to undergo a colonoscopy (family history of colon cancer), which was inconclusive.

I recently visited my primary care physician to get a referral for a repeat colonoscopy (again inconclusive / during a "preliminary appointment" I was also examined with a finger for an "old" anal fissure and anal fistula operated on 5 years ago) and explained my problem with the frequent visits to the toilet. However, I did not mention the entire history mentioned above, as I did not think much of it at the time. A urine test was conducted, which came back normal.

I am currently suffering from anxiety about various diseases and depression (I am also seeking treatment) and to calm myself down in general, my primary care physician spontaneously ordered a small blood test. Everything came back normal as well.

Now, I (which one should not do) have researched on the internet and am extremely afraid that I may have prostate cancer. As far as I know, this disease has not occurred in the family.

I would appreciate an evaluation.

Thank you in advance!

Hello,

for a prostate cancer, you are extremely young. So this is not to be expected. The preliminary examination with the finger would be suitable for finding changes in the prostate. But there was nothing there. So there are several reasons against your assumption.

Because of the problems with urination, your primary care physician will probably send you to a urologist as a precaution anyway. If you express your concerns to him, he can examine you again and specifically and also perform an ultrasound if necessary. This should give you real certainty that everything is fine.

Get well soon.
