M2-PK, Calprotectin, and Polycythemia

Dear Sir or Madam,

Since December 2011, I have been aware of an elevated tumor marker m2-pk in my system. All necessary examinations have been conducted, including colonoscopy, gastroscopy, MRI, ultrasound, etc. All tests came back normal. The value was 21.4 in the plasma (normal range less than 15).

In April 2012, the marker was tested again and it was 24.1. Further tests were done, including chest x-ray and additional ultrasound, with no abnormalities found. However, in April, a polycythemia was detected. I am now seeing a hematologist and a bone marrow biopsy is scheduled for next week.

I have noticed that I have had similar values in the past 20 years, as I tend to be hypochondriacal and have a lot of blood test results. The values are attached as a PDF file.

Could it be possible that I have had polycythemia vera for over 20 years without ever having increased white blood cells, LDH, or uric acid levels?

Last week, my Vitamin B12 was measured at 335 (normal range 133 - 850) and my reticulocytes at 11 (normal range 5 - 15).

Good evening,

the two links will lead you to detailed information about M2PK and the complete blood count.

I have looked at your values, but I cannot understand your considerations regarding polycythemia.

Furthermore, I wanted to ask if your question is still current and if so, how old you are and how your overall health is, especially since so many examinations have already been done. Were there any other reasons for this besides the tumor marker?

Best regards,
Dr. Schaaf
