colon cancer

My grandma had colon cancer 7 years ago. Yesterday, she had a colonoscopy and a week before that blood was taken. Everything was okay during the colonoscopy, but her CEA value was elevated at 5.6. The doctor said she should come back in 3 months and a CT scan would be advisable. My question is, is the CEA value concerning and should she go to the doctor before the 3 months are up?
Good morning,
the normal value should be below 4.6. However, it is higher in smokers, and only at a value above 20 is there a high suspicion that tumor tissue is growing again. The doctor's recommendation is therefore spot on: stay calm, but be vigilant, check the value in 3 months and for safety, have a CT scan.
Does this help you or do you have any further questions?
