Once a week, I (a non-smoker) meet with friends in a pub where smoking is allowed. How harmful is this form of passive smoking, especially for the brain? Should I avoid these meetings instead?

I can assure you. You can continue to meet with your friends and will not suffer any harm from it. Neither the amount nor the frequency indicate a danger from passive smoking.
