Extracting wisdom teeth with migraine

Hello,
I am feeling a bit uncertain as I have an appointment to have a wisdom tooth extracted this evening, which has been causing me pain for a while. I am a migraine patient, and the day before yesterday I started experiencing mild recurring headaches and temporary slight vision disturbances. Yesterday, I had a sensation disorder in my hand/arm, followed by typical visual field defects and then unilateral headaches (almost always on the left side, which is where the tooth is being extracted today). Today it is much better, except for headaches on the left side when coughing. My question is whether it is safe for me to have the tooth extracted (maybe it could have an impact?) or if there are any medical contraindications for migraine sufferers. Thank you.

Dr. med. Frauke Gehring

Hello,

There are no medical objections to having your tooth extracted today. However, I would be surprised if your migraine improved as a result. Recurring headaches can be caused by wisdom teeth, but migraines with aura are not usually associated with this.

I wish you all the best!

Warm regards, Dr. Gehring
