Disruptions in sensation in the fingers

For several months, I have been suffering from sensory disturbances in both hands.

First, a little background: So far, no serious illnesses, just overweight (office job for over 30 years), but well-controlled blood pressure, largely unproblematic blood values, no diabetes.

After neglecting my body for a long time due to work, I have been regularly going to a health center with equipment training for a year (no strength training, but muscle strengthening, etc.), which has been good for me.

About 20 years ago, polyneuropathy began in my feet, first on the left, then on the right. Numerous examinations were carried out, but without results. Therefore, no treatment was carried out, as it does not bother me significantly (currently up to the ankle area without the heel area).

Since childhood, I have been very sensitive to cold in my hands, meaning I have never been able to throw snowballs with bare hands. I may have inherited this from my mother, who had a similar experience.

Some time ago, I first experienced slight sensory disturbances in all fingertips (left hand more than right hand, stronger in the outer fingers than in the thumb), as if I had cut my nails too short.

This has worsened over time. When at rest, my fingers feel cold (although they are not, and they appear visually well-perfused) and there is a slight burning/tingling sensation (as if they were warming up again after a winter hike). When I touch something, it is rather unpleasant, and it becomes more painful when typing on the computer. It is difficult to describe the feeling: it is somewhere between "pinched fingers" and "frozen fingers". The disturbances extend to the back of the hand on the left side. Generally, warmth feels good.

An MRI scan revealed slight constrictions in the thoracic vertebrae area, which were not considered causative by both the orthopedist and the neurologist. An examination by the neurologist only showed minimal carpal tunnel syndrome on the right (the less affected hand). I received B12 injections, but without results, and a visit to the osteopath also did not help.

What should I do?

Thank you & Regards, P.

Dear questioner, this sounds very much like carpal tunnel syndrome. There are special splints for this. Please ask the orthopedist about it. Greetings, Welsch
