What does my CCP value indicate?

Hello,
I had a test for CCP antibodies done. The normal range was given as 5 RE/ml, but my result is 6.9 RE/ml, which means my result is elevated. Unfortunately, my rheumatologist is currently on vacation, so I only picked up the report yesterday at the practice. Since I am now worried that I may have Rheumatoid Arthritis or another rheumatic disease, I am reaching out to you.
I know that a positive result for CCP antibodies is highly indicative of RA. But is the value of 5 RE/ml a cut-off that was chosen as a limit, or do values above that very likely indicate a positive result? I cannot assess the dimensions; if a value is above 5 RE/ml, does it significantly increase the likelihood of a positive result?

the CCP value is definitely specific, that is correct.
Your measurement value, or the exceeding of the limit value, does not represent a "cut-off". The reference value is determined from average values and can also vary upwards and downwards in unaffected individuals.
Your value is in the borderline range. I would consider a significantly abnormal value to be over 10 IU/mL (you mention RE/mL - do you mean IU/mL [international units]?). However, reference values and maximum values differ from lab to lab. Regular check-ups with your doctor, at longer but regular intervals, are recommended.
Rheumatoid arthritis is a disease that develops slowly in older age (55 years). Based on your information, there is no need to rush excessively, in my opinion.
