Life after a heart catheter ablation
July 5, 2014 | 15,00 EUR | answered by Dr. med. Kathrin Hamann
Question to cardiology:
I am 46, female, and I decided to undergo a cardiac catheter ablation due to my strongly pronounced extrasystole. The procedure took place on 2.7.14, was successful and without complications. I am taking 100 mg of aspirin daily for 6 weeks.
Although I am feeling very well, I still have a little bit of fear, so I would like to ask:
> Is it a problem to fly 4 hours after such a procedure? I am planning to fly to Spain for vacation on 26.7.
> When can I start doing Nordic walking and back exercises again?
> Do I need to consider anything else important?
Thank you very much for your response!
Good day, I am happy to help you further.
It should not be a problem for you to embark on a four-hour flight in the coming days after this ablation, a relatively minor heart procedure. Depending on your level of fitness before the procedure, it would be advisable to start slowly with physical activities. Half an hour a day is already possible after a week. However, pay attention to your heart rate and breathing. Walk slowly enough that you can easily carry on a conversation without getting out of breath. Gymnastics should also not be a problem.
If you are taking aspirin regularly, there are no special risks. An EKG check is advisable after 14 days. Subsequently, a 24-hour EKG monitoring may be recommended if the EKG or stress test shows abnormalities.
Do you have any questions about this? I am happy to help you further.
All the best and a speedy recovery!
Sincerely,
Dr. K. Hamann
