Thrombosis Alcohol and Drugs?

Hello,

I have had a deep vein thrombosis in my arm for 3 weeks, which was caused by a broken collarbone.
For the next 3 months, I have to take Eliquis 5mg (active ingredient: Apixaban) and wear compression stockings.
I had a follow-up appointment this week and was told that the thrombosis is "almost" gone because it has become much smaller.
It is also "only" a small thrombosis, affecting only 1 vein.

Since I am flying to a "party" vacation in 2 weeks, I have a question regarding alcohol/drugs.
Are there any interactions between my medications and alcohol & drugs? How dangerous are they?
I was told by a friend that I should not consume drugs at all with an existing thrombosis, as there is a risk of getting a pulmonary embolism.
My internist told me that the thrombosis has now "solidified" and this risk no longer exists.
How dangerous is drug consumption in my case?

Dr. med. Frauke Gehring

Good evening,

The consumption of drugs is always dangerous, apart from the occasional joint! Even without Eliquis, you can get a schizoid psychosis from a single pill of cut ecstasy. I have seen this more than once!
Eliquis can damage the liver, especially in connection with drugs and alcohol. In this respect, there is nothing wrong with one or two glasses of beer, but definitely against heavy drinking.
The risk of thrombosis is unlikely to increase significantly through alcohol-fueled celebrations. Unless you fall asleep drunk on the affected arm and squeeze the vein. Then a recurrence could occur.

Sincerely, Dr. Höllering
