Hello, my CRP value has been elevated for several weeks (13 weeks). I have been thoroughly checked from head to toe and nothing organic has been found. The last CRP value was 36.6, normally it fluctuates between 26/28. What could this be?
I am now also afraid because I have read that if the CRP is elevated and everything else has been ruled out, a heart attack may be imminent.
Good morning,
The CRP value is very unspecific and can, but does not necessarily indicate an increased cardiovascular risk. Often, an elevated value is due to gum inflammation or in athletes, irritation of muscles or joints from overexertion. It can also indicate arteriosclerosis with accompanying inflammation. In that case, the risk for heart disease is slightly increased, but it does not mean that sudden cardiac death is imminent!
Please assess your personal risk with a stress ECG and keep your blood pressure and cholesterol in the normal range. This way, you can minimize your risk.
Wishing you all the best!
Sincerely, Dr. Höllering, Specialist in Internal and General Medicine
