Nausea after eating again and again

Hello,

First of all, a little about myself: I am male, 27 years old, overweight, and - I am well aware of this - a hypochondriac.

For the past three weeks, I have been experiencing constant nausea shortly after eating. It was sometimes so bad that I kept a bucket nearby, thinking I was going to vomit, but it never actually happened. Initially, I thought it was just a simple stomach bug, but I didn't have any diarrhea at all.

The nausea usually occurred within minutes of eating and lasted for several hours. If I didn't eat for a longer period, I felt fine. I then ate very little for a few days, and when I did, it was only light foods, and I felt better during those days. However, after two good days, I had a bad day again, so I finally went to see my primary care physician.

She ordered a stool test to check for Heliobacter bacteria. In the days leading up to the results of this test, I surprisingly started feeling better again, I was able to eat normally, and I even tolerated fast food. When my results came back (I did NOT have Heliobacter) and my doctor asked if I had improved, I said yes, and she seemed no longer worried. When I told her my biggest fear was that it was something serious (like cancer), she explained that this was unlikely and that I should trust her. Just to be sure, if it doesn't get better, I could come back and she would refer me for an endoscopy.

I was relieved that I was feeling better and my doctor wasn't concerned. However, last Sunday I had a cheeseburger and felt sick again. This time, though, it was only brief and passed quickly. The same happened on Monday. On Tuesday evening, I felt very sick again after eating a few chips while watching TV. Yesterday morning it was quite severe again after only eating a roll. But it went away after an hour. Today it's a bit better again.

Nevertheless, I still have a lingering fear that it could be something serious. Especially because I sometimes have mild heartburn. And recently, I read a report about someone with pancreatic cancer whose symptoms sounded similar. He was constantly nauseous after eating and often had heartburn.

I am terrified that I might have pancreatic cancer or esophageal cancer. I don't know how likely something like this is at my age, and I also don't want to google it anymore (it's not good for me). Or maybe it could be another type of cancer. As far as I know, almost any type of cancer can cause nausea.

What would you advise me to do? Should I visit my doctor again and request further tests? Possibly even tests for food intolerances? (Which shouldn't be the case because on the days I felt better, I ate some of the same things as on bad days) Or should I trust her and instead make changes to my diet?

The most important thing to me would be to rule out the worst possible illnesses first.

Good day,

Pancreatic cancer causes back pain, greasy diarrhea, and diabetes, but not your symptoms. They are suspicious of a mild inflammation of the stomach lining and/or acid reflux into the esophagus (maybe the patient described also had this).

Pancreatic and esophageal cancer are not common under 40, usually much later. I would eat less fatty, spicy, and hot foods, be cautious with carbonation, and see if it improves. If not, Omep acute 20 mg (over the counter) taken daily for 2 weeks may help. If it doesn't improve or comes back, I would recommend getting a diagnostic endoscopy; not for cancer, but to check for inflammation.

No need to worry!

Warm regards, Dr. Höllering
