Blood in the mouth
Hello,
for the past two weeks, I have been dealing with a problem that has been bothering me.
First, a little about myself: I am male, 27 years old, quite overweight, a non-smoker, and an occasional drinker (only at parties every few weeks/months, but usually quite a bit).
Two weeks ago, I was sitting at my desk when suddenly I tasted blood in my mouth. I spit into my hand to check, and indeed, there was bright red blood. After spitting three times, it was gone, but it still gave me a fright. I did not cough up or vomit the blood, I am pretty sure it just suddenly appeared in my mouth.
In the mirror, I noticed a small spot on my lower lip that looked like it had recently bled. It is possible that I accidentally bit down on it (even though I didn't notice) and that's where the bleeding came from. However, I am not certain because a few hours later I intentionally bit down on that spot again to see if it would start bleeding (which would have reassured me), but this time it did not bleed. So, I still have this lingering fear that the bleeding may have come from somewhere else.
I am afraid that I may have internal bleeding, possibly in my stomach, and that's where the blood came from. Since that day, I have been constantly checking my saliva and spitting often. So far, there has been nothing. However, yesterday evening I briefly sensed the taste of blood again. But nothing actually came out, and there was nothing to see.
That's why I am writing here. What do you think? Is it possible that I have a serious internal bleeding? Or would I have had to "vomit up" the blood if it came from the stomach? Am I maybe worrying unnecessarily and the blood actually came from my lip or gum bleeding? (I have relatively sensitive gums that are sometimes inflamed)
