Coughing and clearing one's throat
In 2006, I had a pretty strong cold, probably bronchitis (cough with green-gray sputum, slight fever). After about 3 weeks of self-treatment, I went to the doctor. I was feeling better, but a "residual" cough remained. I was prescribed Umcaloabo, but it didn't help. Several weeks later, I went back to the doctor because I felt like my larynx was irritated. A laryngoscopy was performed by the ENT specialist, but everything was fine. Following that, I had an endoscopy, even though I had no stomach problems, also with no findings. I visited the doctor at intervals, as I had no pain, only the constant need to cough and clear my throat (always with white mucus expectoration). A lung function test was conducted, the thyroid was examined, and after a longer period of time, another laryngoscopy and endoscopy were done. Nothing was found. The possibility that there might be psychological reasons was also mentioned. However, through self-observation, I noticed that the cough always occurs after eating or drinking, and as soon as I clear my bronchial tubes, everything is fine. Since it also happens after a sip of water, I feel like I am constantly coughing. As I mentioned, it's not a dry cough. What kind of doctor could I go to now, and what other possible causes could there be? I am 48 years old, female, and work as a mail carrier, so I am not exposed to chemicals. Thank you in advance for your response.
