Beta blockers

Hello, I would like to inquire if it is possible to take Metroprolol 100 mg for years.

I have arrhythmia and a therapy device, and I was told that I no longer need to take these tablets. Is there any truth to this?

Dr. med. Frauke Gehring

Good day,

One can take beta blockers like Metoprolol for years, but if one has sleep apnea, it may be more sensible to switch to an ACE inhibitor or AT1 antagonist. However, since this beta blocker has almost no effect on the lungs and mainly affects the heart, it is possible to continue taking it if, for example, a heart condition requires it.

All the best!

Sincerely, Dr. Höllering
