Nuvaring left outside the vagina for too long

Dear Sir or Madam,

I immediately inserted a new Nuvaring after the last one and have been wearing it continuously for almost 6 weeks now. I was planning to remove the ring tomorrow to have a 7-day ring-free break.

However, yesterday the ring was outside the vagina for about 5 hours. When I noticed, I immediately reinserted the ring.

My question now is, can I still remove the ring tomorrow? And should I use additional contraception methods next week?

Hello,

the contraceptive effect may be reduced. You should remove the ring today and immediately take the ring-free break and wait for the monthly bleeding. After 7 days, insert a new one.

Alternatively, you can insert a new ring today and start a new 3-week phase.

In these cases, you should use an additional contraceptive method (e.g. condom) for safety in the next week.
