Tablet in the esophagus?

Dear Sir or Madam,

I have just caught a cold and last night before going to bed I wanted to take a GeloMyrtol tablet. Unfortunately, I swallowed the capsule with too little water and it felt like it was stuck in my esophagus. I then drank 600ml of water, ate a bell pepper, ate a slice of white bread about three quarters of an hour later, and drank another 100ml. An hour later, I drank another 300ml of milk.

Yesterday, I always felt like something was still stuck, at throat level, exactly where you swallow. But no breathing problems or pain. I have a picture, in case you are not familiar with the medication, it is about 0.5cm wide and 1cm long. The capsule is supposed to be resistant to stomach acid and only dissolve in the intestine. Now I woke up and still feel a slight pressure right between my collarbones. Unfortunately, I googled and it was said that it can irritate the mucous membrane too much and even cause holes to form? I just don't know if it's a feeling or if it's really still stuck there. Should I see a doctor? I am currently in England and supposedly would have to go to the emergency room, and I really don't want to waste their time with such nonsense. If I drink a lot again and eat more white bread, could something bad happen? I also had a sore throat over the weekend and still have a blocked nose, maybe the feeling is also from the mucus? However, I also have a slight feeling of heartburn and don't know if the capsule with all its essential oils is now dissolving in my esophagus and if I could have breathing or heart problems? I apologize for the long text, what would you advise me to do?

Yours sincerely

Good day,

Even enteric-coated capsules dissolve eventually, and you have certainly ensured that it has moved further down. Of course, there may still be an irritated feeling because the essential oil has irritated the mucous membrane. However, the formation of an ulcer is possible with aspirin but not with Gelomyrtol. Problems with the heart and breathing are not to be expected at all.
I would recommend getting an acid blocker like Maaloxan and taking it 4 times within 24 hours. That should help. If not, please see a doctor tomorrow.

Warm regards,
Dr. Höllering
