Rash and fever

Hello, about a week and a half ago, I developed a highly itchy rash on my legs. It spread up to my thighs and at times looked like hives. Due to the extreme itching, I scratched in some areas. However, there are no signs of inflammation. Since last night, the itching has disappeared, but now I have a fever of 39.2 degrees. I am female and 28 years old. What could this be??

Dear inquirer,

this cannot be judged from a distance without seeing the rash, or without conducting a detailed inquiry about your dietary habits and possible medication intake. The most likely cause could be a viral infection. There are many viruses (as you may know from childhood diseases) that can cause a rash in conjunction with a fever. However, it is also possible that the rash and fever do not belong together, but have occurred randomly one after the other.

In any case, it is recommended to visit your general practitioner so that they can determine whether further measures (such as a blood test) are necessary. If it is a viral infection, it is possible that the fever will disappear on its own after a few days and the "culprit" will never be identified. However, it would be better if you still see a doctor to clarify the cause as much as possible. For the acute treatment of the fever, you can initially take fever suppositories or tablets.

I hope I could help you and wish you a speedy recovery,
Yours sincerely, Susanne Plotz
