Hello dear medical team, I have been experiencing severe bladder pain for about 3 weeks now. After 2 weeks, my general practitioner finally decided to take a urine sample, which revealed that I have 2 bacteria in my bladder. These were treated with antibiotics for 12 days, but it did not improve. Then my upper abdomen started to become very hard and swollen as if I were pregnant. Constant burping is also adding to the discomfort. For the past 5 days, I have been experiencing severe groin pain, starting on the left side, then moving to the right, and now affecting both sides, with the right side being stronger and extending up to my kneecap. It feels like a burning sensation. The entire lower abdomen is affected. I have had a fever, sometimes reaching up to 39 degrees, and have been experiencing constant diarrhea. A stomach endoscopy has already been done, and a colonoscopy is scheduled for Friday. What can I do to make the pain bearable until then?
Good morning,
The answer is not quite simple.
Ideally, one should always have a diagnosis first and then treat.
Since there is no diagnosis, one can only treat symptomatically, in your case the pain, but risks delaying the disease and its effective treatment.
Persistent high fever indicates an infection that should be treated as soon as possible. The increasing pain also suggests that there is no time to lose.
Therefore, do not hesitate to see your primary care physician again. For example, consulting a surgeon may be helpful or quickly clarifying with a colonoscopy.
Regarding your actual question: Now the options for pain therapy are limited to medications such as Ibuprofen, Novaminsulfon, or Tramadol. Buscopan would be effective against cramps. Your primary care physician can put together a sensible combination for you.
Does this help you or do you have any further questions?
Sincerely, Dr. Schaaf
