Antidepressants and anesthesia

I will be undergoing surgery in 1.5 under general anesthesia and I am taking Escitalopram. According to my psychiatrist, there should be no problems. I will of course also ask the anesthesiologist. Should I be worried? I read on the internet that I should stop taking it beforehand, but my doctor is not aware of this.
Good day, dear questioner!
Your psychiatrist is right. Escitalopram is one of the "new" psychopharmaceuticals from the SSRI (Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) group. Unlike some "old" psychopharmaceuticals, this one does not need to be discontinued. On the contrary, it has been described that abrupt discontinuation can lead to withdrawal and restlessness. This is definitely something you want to avoid before anesthesia.
So, you don't need to worry.
Inform your anesthesiologist about the intake (timing, amount, and potency of Escitalopram) of your medication, that's all.
R. C. Berg, Specialist in Anesthesiology, wishes you a nice afternoon.
