Submission of the income tax return
November 3, 2010 | 30,00 EUR | answered by Michael Herrmann
Dear Sir or Madam,
I would like the following question answered:
For several years now, I have not submitted an income tax return. My income is regularly and normally taxed through my employer. So far, the tax office has not made any inquiries about this. However, I now urgently need to rectify this. What should I do and where should I go?
Thank you in advance for a prompt response.
Sincerely,
C.E.
Dear inquirer,
First of all, thank you very much for your inquiry, which I am happy to answer based on the information provided and in the context of your initial consultation. The response will be based on the facts presented. Missing or incorrect information about the actual circumstances can affect the legal outcome.
If you only have income from employment, you are not obligated to file a tax return. However, if you expect a tax refund due to special expenses or incorrect taxation through the wage tax deduction procedure, you can still submit tax returns for the years up to 2005 this year. This is called filing by request.
The key question is whether tax refunds are expected. This should be calculated in advance. If you decide to file a tax return, you can download the forms from the internet or pick them up at your tax office. For employees, there is the option to either file a "normal" income tax return or complete the simplified income tax return form, which is shorter. A tax number will be provided by the tax office after submission.
I hope that these details have provided you with a sufficient overview of the situation in the context of your inquiry, and I remain
Yours sincerely,
Michael Herrmann
