Income tax Freelance journalist ELSTER

Dear Sir or Madam,

Last year (2011) I earned 3000 EURO as a freelance journalist and will earn the same amount again this year. I have never filed a tax return before and would ideally like to submit it through the ELSTER system.

As I mentioned, I am completely inexperienced and would need help on how this declaration should look and how to enter it through ELSTER.
Thank you very much and best regards!
Lars

Dear inquirer,

Thank you for your inquiry, which I am happy to answer taking into account your effort and the rules on this platform.

Please note that my explanations are based on the situation you have presented, and any modifications or ambiguity in the information provided may affect the correct tax result. Please also note that, for professional reasons, I cannot address legal questions.

If you have additional income (e.g. wages, capital gains, rental income, etc.), these should also be included in the Elster tax return.

The income (revenue minus expenses or flat-rate business expenses) from your work as a freelance journalist should be declared in Appendix S (line 4). Additionally, the so-called Appendix EÜR must be completed. In this appendix, you will separate your income and expenses according to the listed items and then reconcile them to determine profit or loss.

The tax declaration forms are standardized and can be downloaded for free from the website of your tax office or via Elster.

I hope my answer has been helpful to you.
