Ask a tax advisor on the topic of Double taxation

UK Limited established with entire customer base in the UK - Director currently resides in Austria.

Dear expert team,

I have been living in England for the past 3 years and have set up a Limited Company there. It is a one-man company, with myself as the Director and sole shareholder. The company has only 2 customers to whom I provide a software package that requires occasional support. This support takes place on-site every 2-3 months. My company income is £2000 per month. The company is registered at the address of my accountant, as is common in England.

Since September 2015, I have been living in Austria as part of a Phd research program and now have my main residence (center of life) and full-time employment there. I pay taxes and am insured there. My UK Limited has only English customers and no work is carried out in Austria (I fly to England for customer support). Currently, the company pays the Director (me) a tax-free minimum salary (£8000 per year). The rest of the income is taxed under English income tax laws. Since I do not currently need the earned money and will move back to England in 3 years, I am not paying out any dividends.

My questions are:

Is it possible to keep the company registered in England in order to continue paying taxes there?
Do I need to hire a Director who has their main residence in England in order to do this?
If not, and I am able to remain as Director, does my tax-free English salary need to be offset against my Austrian salary and taxed in Austria?

Thank you for your help.
