Support for studies

Dear Sir or Madam,

My husband was divorced from his first wife in 2002.
We got married in 2007.
My husband is married to me for the second time, responsible for financial support for a son from his first marriage, 17 years old, and an adult daughter from the first marriage, now 23 years old. She lives with the mother of the child. Daughter started studying "Bachelor's degree" in Media Informatics in 2007.
In the 3 years, despite many requests to my daughter, I have never received any proof of passed exams.
I cannot obtain proof from the educational institution without authorization. I also do not receive authorization from my daughter.
Now I am being asked to continue paying with the justification that she will be pursuing a Master's degree starting in November.
Am I still obligated to pay if I never receive any proof?
Thank you in advance.

Sincerely,

Steffan Schwerin

Dear questioner,

I will answer the questions you have asked, taking into account the circumstances described and your contribution, as follows:

In principle, you are obligated to provide support until the completion of the first education.

If the Master's program builds upon the Bachelor's program, then it is still considered part of a continuous education and the obligation to provide support continues.

However, your daughter also has obligations to fulfill and must provide the necessary evidence.

You can therefore threaten to stop providing support if the required evidence is not presented.

I must point out that this platform cannot replace a detailed and personalized legal consultation. The sole purpose is to provide a preliminary assessment of your legal issue based on the information you have provided, by a lawyer. The legal advice I provide is based solely on the information you have provided. By adding or omitting relevant information in your description, the legal assessment could be completely different.

I hope I have given you a first overview and that my explanations will help you. Please feel free to contact me through the follow-up option on this platform.

Furthermore, I am available for representation as your legal counsel. The initial consultation fee you have paid will be fully credited.

The distance between lawyer and client is generally not an issue. With the help of modern communication tools such as email, mail, fax, and telephone, legal representation is still possible.
