Special Needs - Tuition Fees??
August 29, 2009 | 20,00 EUR | answered by Michael Vogt
I am divorced. Our children are 18 (student) and 20 (student starting in October) years old and both live with me. My ex-husband pays child support according to level 5 of the Ddf. table, so the amount is €710. Question: The tuition fees (Baden-Württemberg) amount to €580 per semester including various fees. Does my ex-husband have to contribute to this, and if so, to what extent? My income is below €1,100 per month. (Possibly my youngest will also study in a year, which I alone can hardly afford). Thank you for your answer.
Dear Seeker,
I would like to answer your question based on the circumstances you have described and taking into account your contribution as follows:
Basically, the so-called additional need due to education, which includes textbooks for example, is included in the student's needs.
However, tuition fees are not included in this, as they can be claimed separately as an additional need.
Therefore, your divorced husband must contribute to these costs within the scope of his liability share.
I hope that my answer has given you an initial overview of the legal situation.
