Resident parking permit - document forgery?

Hello,
I have received a summons for questioning as a suspect in forgery of documents. I sold my old vehicle and handwrote the residential parking permit issued for this vehicle's registration number with the new registration number of my new vehicle (crossing out the old number and writing the new one underneath). This went unnoticed for 2 weeks until the police rang my doorbell and questioned my fiancée (I was not at home). In order to prevent the car from being broken into or towed, she handed the "evidence" over to the officer and carelessly stated that we knew we should apply for a new residential parking permit with the new vehicle registration number at the official office, but had not yet had the time to do so. I have been a resident there for about 10 years and always had a valid residential parking permit.
What should I pay attention to during the interrogation?

Thank you!

Dear Seeker of Advice,

Thank you for your inquiry!

I would like to address your questions as follows:

I regret to inform you that, based on your description, it does indeed appear to be a case of forgery of documents under Section 267 of the Criminal Code. This is because you are not authorized to issue resident parking permits and by manipulating them, you have falsely indicated to others that the rightful owner made those changes.

You are not the rightful owner and therefore, by misleading third parties about the content of this document or the actual issuer, you have committed a deception.

From your account of the situation, it is clear that you were aware that you were not allowed to do this, which is also problematic. In relation to the interrogation, I would like to inform you that you are not obligated to attend (you are only required to attend if summoned by a judge or the relevant prosecutor) and if you do attend, you are not required to say anything that could incriminate you.

It may be advisable, before making a statement, to engage a criminal law experienced attorney locally to request access to the files and then coordinate your statement with you after reviewing the files.

I would like to finally point out the following:

The legal advice I provided is based solely on the information you provided. My response is only an initial legal assessment of the situation and cannot replace a comprehensive evaluation of the facts. Adding or omitting relevant information can lead to a completely different legal assessment.

I hope that my explanations have been helpful. Feel free to contact me via my email address or the follow-up option.

I wish you a pleasant Monday afternoon and a successful start to your week!
