What can I do about my constant nosebleeds?

Dear Doctor,

My name is Siegfried Hinze and I have been suffering from frequent nosebleeds for some time now. It occurs both during the day and at night and is very burdensome for me. Often, my nose starts bleeding without any apparent cause, without me having bumped or injured it. I am concerned that it could be a serious health issue that I have not yet recognized.

The nosebleeds usually occur from the left nostril and sometimes last for several minutes until they stop on their own. I have tried to clean my nose gently and not blow it too hard, but that has not helped much so far. Applying nasal ointments or using moist tissues has not provided lasting relief either.

I am wondering if there might be a medical reason for my constant nosebleeds and what I can do about it. Are there specific tests that I should undergo to find the cause? Are there any specific medications or home remedies known to help with this issue? I would be grateful for any help and support in managing my nosebleeds and alleviating my concerns.

Thank you in advance for your help and expertise.

Sincerely,
Siegfried Hinze

Jessica Jung

Dear Mr. Hinze,

Thank you for your detailed description of your problem with constant nosebleeds. It is understandable that you are concerned and looking for possible causes and solutions. Nosebleeds can have various causes, from harmless to serious health issues. It is important that you seek medical help to determine the exact cause of your nosebleeds and receive appropriate treatment.

The nosebleeds you describe, occurring mainly from the left nostril and both during the day and at night, could have various causes. A common cause of nosebleeds is damage to the delicate blood vessels in the nose, for example due to dry air, allergic reactions, nasal polyps, nasal injuries, or infections. Conditions such as high blood pressure, blood clotting disorders, or sinus infections can also lead to nosebleeds.

To find the exact cause of your nosebleeds, it is advisable to see an ear, nose, and throat specialist. The doctor will conduct a thorough examination to determine whether it is a harmless cause such as dry air or a more serious condition. Additional tests such as a blood test, X-ray, or nasal endoscopy may also be necessary to determine the exact cause.

The treatment of nosebleeds depends on the underlying cause. In many cases, simple measures such as wearing nasal clips, applying nasal ointments, or avoiding strong blowing of the nose can help stop the nosebleeds. In some cases, the administration of medications such as decongestant nasal sprays or hemostatic medications may be necessary. In severe cases of nosebleeds, medical intervention such as cauterization of blood vessels or surgery may be required.

It is important that you seek medical treatment to find the exact cause of your nosebleeds and receive appropriate treatment. Do not hesitate to consult an ENT specialist and discuss your concerns and symptoms with them. Only then can you receive suitable treatment and manage your nosebleeds.

I hope my response was helpful to you and wish you all the best for your health.

Sincerely,
Jessica Jung, ENT Specialist
