bony avulsion what to do

Hello,
I twisted my foot inwards 2 days ago, with a noise. On the X-ray (which I can send as a photo), you can see a piece of bone detached from one of the outer ligaments. What to do? Surgery?
Thank you.

Good morning:

Pictures would be nice, but for now, here is a lot already: For decades, the outside ligaments were all operated on, only to find out that the results without surgery are at least as good as with surgery. So, surgery is usually not done anymore today. The only exception: If it is feared immediately after the accident that the joint will remain unstable. That is also the only reason why surgery is performed later. Explanation: A decision is made once after the fresh accident and, if necessary, a second time weeks to years later if the patient continues to have problems due to instability.

You have probably been lucky, because ligaments that tear with a small piece of bone usually heal better than ligaments that tear in the middle and where the ends of the ligament have to somehow find each other again.

Long story short: No, do not operate if there is nothing special, of which you have not written anything.

Sincerely,
Dr. Schaaf
