Slight double image in long distance viewing

I am nearsighted (R: -5.25/-0.25/5), (L: -3.75/-0.75/150) and have the following problem:

Both eyes INDIVIDUALLY have correct vision for distance. However, both eyes TOGETHER create a blur effect (double vision). For example, while driving: I am unable to correctly read the signs for 80 and 30. But if I close one eye (either one), then my vision is clear.

My eye doctor says: "You do not need a prism (which the optician wants to sell me for 300€), your eyes are fine." It's considered a luxury problem.

However, I no longer feel safe while driving, I drive much slower than before and I don't drive at night at all.

Another thing: If I slightly adjust my glasses, pulling the left side down (3 mm) and the right side up (3 mm), I can also regain my clear vision.
