Problems with neuroleptic medication

Hello,
I suffer from severe sleep disorders (for years).
I have been taking Melperon (after experiencing significant weight gain and tachycardia with Amitriptyline and Quetiapine). Since taking 50 mg, I suddenly experienced severe swallowing difficulties and shortness of breath (pre-existing condition of bronchial asthma, but generally well controlled).
My question: are there any alternatives that have a relatively strong sedative effect but do not affect pulse and breathing, and also do not cause "very frequent" weight gain, as I am already overweight?
Hello!
Difficulty swallowing and shortness of breath are rather unusual side effects of Melperon. Asthma is also usually not a problem with this medication. Since you have already taken some substances from the field of psychopharmacology, I assume that there are more problems than just the sleep disorder. In this case, one would first try classic sleeping pills such as Zopiclone. However, it is advisable not to take them for a long time, as the potential for dependency is quite high.
I think the most important thing is to get to the bottom of the cause of your sleep disorder. Psychotherapeutic support may also be helpful in this case. You could discuss this with your primary care physician. In addition, plenty of exercise is certainly recommended... partly because of the overweight, and also to go to bed feeling "exhausted" in the evening.
I wish you all the best!
