Ask a doctor on the topic of Internal medicine

The chair looks funny.

Hello, I have a not so great question about my stool.

I woke up this morning and had lunch. It was roast chicken with potatoes, peas, gravy + banana. 20 minutes later, I had to go to the bathroom. My stool looked strange. Light brown with slight yellow mucus and yellow pieces in it. Thick and partially mushy.

I had changing pressure in my stomach before going to the bathroom.

Should I be worried about this? I have had similar stools in the past few days. I used to regularly drink large 0.5 liter smoothies (fruit) before. Every day.

I had a colonoscopy a year ago and nothing was found.

Should I be worried now?

Sorry for the embarrassing and uncomfortable question.

Good day,

You don't need to worry, as there is no serious cause behind it. 0.5 liters of smoothies is quite a lot and can challenge the intestines. If it is not used to it, the stool can change as described.

I would suggest replacing the smoothies with tea (for a while) and avoiding raw fruits and vegetables for a few days. Then it should normalize. Afterwards, slowly reintroduce fruits and vegetables, and if you still want to try smoothies, start with a much smaller amount.

Only if the stool does not change with a bland diet, I recommend visiting a doctor.

All the best!

Sincerely, Dr. Höllering
